Antonio Conte insists he’s happy at Tottenham: ‘I am really committed to this club’

Antonio Conte has insisted he is happy at Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham have not won a match since club football returned after the World Cup and after a loss to Aston Villa at the start of the month, Conte said his side were never capable of challenging for the title this season.

He also suggested Spurs need to spend more and have a stronger squad to reach those heights.

But the Italian said he is committed to the north London club.

When asked whether he wants to be part of the project at Spurs, he said: “This is a problem between me and the club. Now, I’m really committed to this club, to Tottenham. I’ve signed a contract, I accept the project to build and help the club.

“During this process 1,000 things can happen. The club can sack the manager, there are different situations.

“I’m happy to stay here, I’m enjoying my time, I’m happy the way I’m working. I always say this. I’m happy, but it doesn’t mean I won’t tell you what we’re doing. We’re trying to create a foundation.

“Maybe from the start of my experience here I’m repeating the same things. It’s difficult to keep saying the same thing and you’re not understanding (me). I explain the programme, the way we are… stop. I didn’t say just anything. What do I have to tell you?

“Sometimes I go home and think I have to study much more my English, I’m not good at transferring my thoughts to you. Or you don’t want to understand.”

Spurs face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Wednesday. Dejan Kulusevski remains a doubt for that game, while Rodrigo Bentancur and Richarlison are both likely to be out.

Conte said: “Bentancur (adductor suffered in World Cup) has started to work, he’s not ready for this game or also for the FA Cup (against Portsmouth). But we hope to have him for the next Premier League game (Arsenal on January 15).

“Richarlison, we have to see and check the situation. he’ll have another MRI to understand the situation. Kulusevski is not a serious injury but we have to wait day by day and take the best decision (for Palace on Wednesday). We have these three injuries.

“I don’t know if Kulusevski will play, we have today and tomorrow to check his situation. We’ll see. If the player gives his availability he could play.”
