Winners and Losers of Week 12

College football is an escape. It’s a sport of pageantry, school pride and passion. It’s something that connects friends for decades. It’s the beautiful chaos that occupies our Saturdays every single fall.

None of that felt quite the same this weekend after the events that occurred in Charlottesville, Virginia earlier this week. Three Virginia football players were killed Sunday night in a deadly mass shooting. The victims, Lavel Davis Jr., Devin Chander and D’Sean Perry, are what mattered this weekend. They were memorialized Saturday in Charlottesville. Nothing that happened on the field feels particularly relevant given that three young lives were taken needlessly to gun violence.

Still, those student-athletes loved the beautiful game of college football. So, with that in mind, let’s recap this weekend of on-field action and keep the families of those affected by what occurred at UVA in our thoughts.
