Leeds complete Max Wober transfer for around £10m

Leeds United have completed the signing of Red Bull Salzburg defender Max Wober.

Wober, 24, has agreed a contract with Leeds until June 2027.

The Athletic reported on Monday that Leeds were close to bringing Wober in and he now becomes their first arrival of the January transfer window for a fee in the region of £10million ($12.1m).

Wober previously worked with Leeds head coach Jesse Marsch at Salzburg. Marsch was in charge of the club side when Wober arrived from Sevilla in August 2019 for what was a record fee for the Austrian Bundesliga. Previously, Wober played for Rapid Vienna and Ajax, before moving to Sevilla.

The Austria international is primarily a left-sided centre-back but has been Salzburg’s left-back in the league this season, and Leeds want him to provide competition in both of those positions.

Wober will wear the no 39 shirt while at Leeds, the same number he wore at Salzburg.

He could make his debut for Leeds in their FA Cup third-round tie against Cardiff City on Sunday.
