NCAAB picks & predictions for Tuesday, January 3, 2023

Today’s NCAAB schedule is filled with games, and seven different Top 25 teams will be in action. Although this is the case, our experts targeted three games featuring unranked teams. The first is our best bet and comes from Syracuse vs. Louisville matchup that will take place at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville. Let’s dive into this pick and our experts’ other NCAAB picks and predictions for Tuesday, 1/3.

Syracuse vs. Louisville basketball prediction, odds & best bet

The 9-5 Syracuse Orange will take on the 2-12 Louisville Cardinals Tuesday night, and we anticipate a big win for the visitors. The hosts are just 3-11 against the spread and are coming off an 86-63 defeat to the Kentucky Wildcats. Luckily for the Cardinals, they were +23.5 underdogs and just covered by the hook, but it will be hard for them to cover in this contest against Syracuse.

The Cardinals faced a zone defense earlier this season against Western Kentucky and won, but they connected on 13 of their 25 three-point shots, which is hard to replicate. Additionally, Louisville is 280th in the country in three-point percentage, so we don’t anticipate them knocking down 10+ threes against this Syracuse zone.

To beat a zone, you need to make good passes, knock down threes or dominate the offensive glass. Louisville is 357th in the country in assist rate and 287th in offensive rebounding rate. Clearly, this team isn’t strong on the offensive end, and we think the Orange can cover. Seven of Syracuse’s nine wins have been by 10+ points, so the best bet from our NCAAB picks is for the Orange to cover the -9 spread available at Caesars Sportsbook.

Ohio vs. Buffalo basketball prediction, odds & best bet

The next two of our NCAAB picks aren’t official predictions, but our experts have strong leanings for both games. The Ohio Bobcats will take on the Buffalo Bulls at Alumni Arena, and we predict that the game will finish with over 156.5 points, which has -110 odds at Caesars Sportsbook.

Both these teams can put up points; Buffalo averages 78.8 points per game (48th in the country) and has scored 78 or more points in six of their last eight games. They averaged 97.5 points per game at home over their last four contests. Although their opposition wasn’t as strong as Ohio, they’ve shown an ability to score early and often.

Ohio has been shooting the lights out as well, and they average 77.5 points per game (75th in the country). Like Buffalo, they’ve been playing well recently and have 76 points or more in four of their last five games. Additionally, four of their last six games have finished over the total, and the over is 4-1 in their last five road games.

We predict both trends will continue Tuesday night, so our Ohio vs. Buffalo basketball prediction is for the game to finish with over 156.5 points, and you can fade or follow this NCAAB pick if you sign up for a new account at Caesars Sportsbook.

Western Michigan vs. Kent State basketball prediction, odds & best bet

The final game we’ll cover features Western Michigan and Kent State, and our experts’ lean is for the Golden State Flashes to cover the -17.5 spread available at Caesars Sportsbook. These are two teams on opposite sides of the spectrum because Kent State is 10-3, while Western Michigan is 4-9 overall and just 3-7 against the spread (three of their games didn’t have betting lines due to their opponent) . Western Michigan has just one win against a division one program (Houston Baptist).

Meanwhile, Kent State has played extremely well this season, and their losses include a 74-72 road defeat to College of Charleston and tight losses to #2 Houston (49-44) and #9 Gonzaga (73-66). This team should make the NCAA tournament in March, and after losing to Gonzaga, they’ve won four in a row. Kent State is 10-1 against the spread overall and 4-0 ATS at home.

Only one of Kent State’s home wins came by fewer than 18 points (83-68 against South Dakota State), and they’re 6-3-1 in their last 10 games against the spread when playing Western Michigan. We’ll back Kent State to win big and cover the -17.5 spread against Western Michigan tonight.
