Nickelodeon had an insane amount of momentum in the 90s. As cable packages expanded to include more channels than ever before, Nickelodeon, which launched in 1979, was met with a host of new rivals in the last decade of the 20th century. But instead of bowing down and succumbing to the onslaught of challengers, Nick countered by producing a staggering number of quality shows. From roughage rates and Rocko’s Modern Life to Everything and Are you afraid of the darkNickelodeon in the 90s was on fire.
Because of creating so many white-hot intellectual properties, Nickelodeon was thrown into the movie production business. Though Harriet the spy was Nickelodeon’s first film, the studio’s second film Good Burger was the first to feature characters from one of the network’s most popular shows. According to VarietyParamount Plus believes there is more than enough interest in 90s nostalgia and Good Burger tell them to start offering seconds of IP.
“Good Burger 2” has been officially greenlit at Paramount+, with original stars Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell set to return.
The news was revealed on Friday’s episode of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” The sequel to the beloved Nickelodeon movie begins production in May with plans to debut it on Paramount+ later in 2023.
“I can’t believe it’s been a little over 25 years since good customer service was born at Good Burger!” Thompson said in a statement. “Being a part of something that so many generations of people have come to love has made me so proud and now it’s surreal to be back where it all started working on the sequel! Love performing with my brother Kel and can’t wait to show fans what these characters have been up to since we last saw them.”
