TJ Holmes and Amy Robach were spotted bracing for the cold to head to the starting line to run the New York City Half Marathon together this morning.
In pictures seen exclusively by DailyMail.com, Holmes, 45, and Robach, 50, were clad head-to-toe in Lycra and looking chilly as they headed to Prospect Park in Brooklyn to work up a sweat.
Their second half in two years, the run is the former anchors’ first since news of their relationship cost them their jobs last year — and it comes on the heels or reports that they planned to hold the event while incognito.
Their affair, revealed by DailyMail.com in November, cost them both their marriage and their contracts at ABC, and both ended their tenures at GMA3 with severance pay in January. The competitive pair have since struggled to keep a low profile – after returning from a trip to Mexico in February where they reportedly packed on the PDA.
The couple may also have used the trip to prepare for the 13.1-mile race in Manhattan and Brooklyn to keep up their fitness with “intimate” sex workouts that have put them in “the best shape of their lives”, insiders revealed to DailyMail.com this week.
DailyMail.com’s snappers across the East River shortly before sunrise confirmed suspicions that the pair were set for a relatively under-the-radar event, which should wrap up by midday, as the final wave has hookers.
The pair were dressed for the occasion – wearing hats, gloves and form-fitting sports gear as the temperature dipped just below freezing, joining around 25,000 runners who were said to be taking part in the event.
Notable names rumored to have joined include retired Giants running back Tiki Barber and reality TV stars Andi Dorfman and Peter Weber, who have yet to be photographed since the first heat of the run hit the pavement at 7am.
The run starts in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park before heading over the East River via the Manhattan Bridge, where once in Manhattan, runners race along the Lower East Side through Midtown and finally end up in Central Park.
Like its more famous, full counterpart, the United Airlines NYC Half Marathon only happens once a year, and it’s a bit of a bummer for Sunday drivers as it’s one of the only events that closes Times Square completely.
Far from being a show-stopper, however, the run is relatively unknown to most New Yorkers, garnering far less coverage than the city’s famous five-borough event — and attracting less than half as many runners.
It is this apparent ambiguity that may have influenced Robach and Holmes’ decision to field three separate groups of runners in the first wave, preceded by wheelchair and hand-wheel athletes.
The pair appeared to avoid media scrutiny for the most part – despite donning brilliantly bright, ultra-lightweight running shoes that showcased their not-so-subtle natures.
